Manager at Lazy Ln in Tampa has a bad attitude

Public Storage - Manager at Lazy Ln in Tampa has a bad attitude

Updated by user Nov 22, 2024

Public storage nor the regional manager Melissa Smith did anything to resolve my issue. I will be moving out of public storage by the end of this month.

After 2 years of being at the storage unit, never being late, never doing anything illegal at the storage. This is how I was treated by the public storage staff and regional manager.

I do not recommend anyone using public storage again. Their rates increase every 6 months.

Original review Nov 13, 2024

Customer service took down the information I gave them. Now, I would like the supervisor of the Tampa Lazy ln location to contact me concerning this person's attitude and disrespect as a paying Public Storage renter.

Getting screwed

Very dissatisfied. You have advertisements for the same Complex for storage units bigger than the one I have for a third The price.

I've been a customer 9 years They seem like the longer you there. The more you charge, no royalty discount.Never been late on Payment.

But yeah, but yet you raise the price. Close to a $100 every year.

My unit's been broken in too. You won't tell me if you have video of the break In or not.

Dont be fooled by low introductory rates to get you locked into their setup. Prepare for scheduled price increases.

3 months to the day of being at public storage they took my rate from $177 to $238.

A $47 increase.

On top of their gate rarely working and property management rarely being available these scheduled rate hikes are predicted abusive billing practices. They use low introductory rates to get you moved into their facility and with perfectly timed planning they increase your rate.

Then you have to play their silly game and call and cancel your current unit and reserve a new unit at the lower rate. I tried that and they said since I was already a customer they couldnt give me a low rate so I just told them to cancel me and Ill be moved out by my next billing cycle. Magically they were able to lock me in at a rate that was only $10 higher than original rate for the next three months.

When I moved in I even asked the lady at the front counter how often they do rate hikes and she said public storage is known for keeping rates the same for long periods of time. For me, the lack of transparency makes me not want to give this company my business. And Im doing just that. Ill be out of here in less than 30 days and wont ever bring my business back.

I also know several other friends and business owners who keep items here and I have reached out to them to educate them how to beat public storage at their own stupid game. Do better PUBLIC STORAGE. Be transparent. And perhaps honor the words in the emails you send that claim you appreciate our loyalty.

You lost a customer.

Not to mention the new rate breakdown they send is completely contradictory.

Somehow standard rent of $206 minus $50 credit somehow gives you rent of $238 that when $50 is subtracted from gets me to the final rate of $187. Why even mention the $206? Its irrelevant and rather than make you feel like youre getting a deal, you get to see the nonsense they try and pull on customers. At no time was my rent ever $156 (standard rent of $206 minus $50 credit).

Why not just be transparent?

Id rather you start me off at a higher rate and lock it in for a year vs this nonsense. But like most big businesses, once they have the leverage over you, they know youll usually comply as its inconvenient to move back out.

Rats, Roaches, Possums, Homeless living in units, high increased prices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

For close to 2 years, I've been with this facility. Every time I turn around, I'm fighting the amount owed as rent goes up and up, yet nothing is ever taken care of.

Electricity doesn't work down some rows of units; I've had to be without it even though we are paying for it and higher than most storage units around that are new and nicer. The facility has homeless people living in it, and they know it but don't care. The lady sits outside in front and uses electricity to charge her phone; she tried to walk in on my code, and I pitched a fit with the homeless lady, then proceeded to tell Lisa, and nothing has been done to this day. Roaches and rats are a major issue at this place and have ruined everything I have there.

I've moved units due to leaks and mold, which then forced me to pay new move-in fees for admin over their lack of care. With as many people losing personal items to this place, you'd think the health board would shut them down. Insurance won't pay but $250 for rodent claims; that's not enough out of what's lost due to rats in units. The apartment is what I thought was for the manager to live in, so tell me how there are more than 4 adults, 2 babies, and dogs living in the manager's apartment?

Apparently, rent increases are to pay for the living of the homeless and the family living as management. Sorry, Lisa, I've been patient with this place and you long enough to where I refuse to hold back anymore or bite my tongue. Something needs to change here; I have 3 units, and my crew has 2, and you force a higher amount owed with the issues spoken about above at this place, plus rodents I've paid to attempt to keep away, and no money for that paid back to me, but yet you don't correct the problems when asked. No, I won't hold back or be promised to take care of over a review again.

I'll be moving this month. This facility needs to be demolished with the amount of loss people go through each month here and are forced to throw away. Not to mention the possum I had in my unit and me calling to get help with it; no answer to the phone, and it was working hours, screaming for help after being trapped with it. Bet management never heard this.

Pics will be posted next. Please do have upper management contact me; I have so many photos and videos to share of this place, and I have many others I've collected numbers from that have lost everything over this storage. Why haven't I moved?

I'm sure you want to know. I work, and I work a lot of hours; it's expensive to move, but I'm going to for sure now.

Awful Property Management

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Public Storage - Awful Property Management

I pay for a large unit, the "private" gate I pay for to keep strangers out rarely works or stays closed. I complained about that and was told "you should not keep valuable items in your unit.

What is the entire purpose of paying for GATED Storage? Today I pulled up and the gate was shut finally! Then I used the public storage app, clicked open gate and it proceeded to open 2 feet. This happens while I have another vehicle behind me so I got out and typed in the kiosk made for also opening the gate.

It didn't do anything. The guy behind me left, I parked my car and had to walk 400 feet to my unit, grab the 2 brake rotors and calipers that I had planned to just set in my trunk. I walked it all the back to the entrance to where I was forced to park my car and then be late to meet a buyer for the items in my unit.

The gate not only is rarely closed but when it does stay closed, it only opens 2 feet because nobody maintains it! Outrageous.

Overall, the company is horrible. They entered my property twice without permission or notification and I was unable to access my property due to them changing my lock and not being in the office after 1:30pm

Original review Nov 11, 2024
Hello,

I am beyond upset. I have rented unit 4030 at Plymouth Rd, Livonia, MI. You have cut my lock off twice and entered my space without permission or notification. I didn't know that was even legal to do. It is certainly unethical and unprofessional for you to enter my space without permission or notification. I would have rather removed my belongings. I tried several times on Oct 31st, at noon and at 2:30, to retrieve my personal belongings. I called several times and left a message. Today is Nov 11th and I finally received a return call that nobody is in the office after 1:30 pm today. How does the business run? I guess I will have to call the Better Business Bureau and report the issues to make sure the public is informed on how this unprofessional business operates. I see you don't have a problem taking my payment for services not rendered.

Furious and disgusted with your business,

Elevator broken AGIN

I have a storage unit at 7133 Delridge Way in Seattle, WA. Shortly after renting my unit in November of 2023, the elevator broke and was broken for 4 months.

Now it is broken again. I cannot access my unit. They expect me to haul the items I want in or out down 2 flights of stairs. At 68, I cannot do this.

I would like to know why I was told I would be able to access my unit during the hours they post. Yet, I was not informed that I would have to haul heavy boxes and items down 2 flights of stairs.

I was lied to. Will it be another 4 months before I can access my personal belongings?

User's recommendation: Be sure to get a ground floor unit or don't rent here. The elevator is always broken and it takes months to get it fixed. They don't give you any notification when it's broken or after it fixed.

Property manager complaint

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My husband is disabled. We went to pay for our storage unit, and the lock that they gave us we didn't have the money for, so we bought a lock, but it wouldn't work with the gate.

The manager that was inside at the time told my husband that she had a lock with her that was left by somebody. I guess she would swap it out with the lock that's on there now so we wouldn't get charged for it, and we could come pick up the key. Now they can't find the key, and this manager is not remembering this issue. There was somebody else in there with her that was changing shifts at the time.

I can't get into my storage unit, and they threaten to charge me for any other storage unit, so I have to pay for two storage units.

I'm being evicted. I have to get my stuff out, and I can't get help.

Crestwood, MO employees stole items out of my unit & was illegally recorded

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Hello,

I had unit #126 at the Crestwood, Missouri Public Storage location from April 2024 through December 2024. I was illegally recorded by all Public Storage employees at this location using their cell phones to record me.

I was even illegally recorded in the public restroom here where there are no cameras and people expect privacy. I was illegally recorded in the nude while changing my clothes and using the bathroom. Employees used their cell phones to illegally record me.

In November 2024, I discovered that the entire city and county of St. Louis were illegally recording me, as ordered by the Kirkwood, MO police and all other St.

Louis city and county police. After I found out about the illegal recording, Public Storage employees stole my lock when I was inside my unit not paying attention to illegally make a copy of my key.

After they made a copy of my key, employees stole my birth certificate, debit cards, and 2 different Missouri state IDs on separate occasions. They did this to make it harder for me to leave the Saint Louis area and report the illegal recording to authorities.

I was a loyal Public Storage customer for years before this, but this incident has completely destroyed my trust in Public Storage and hopefully this review helps prevent this horrible injustice from happening to more innocent people like myself.

Thank you,

Jessica Horn

Why wouldn’t you change in your rental unit? And if you were JUST changing, why weren’t you in a stall?

Yes, people expect privacy in a restroom, but it works both ways. Others coming in should not see anyone in a state of undress.

Rapacious creditor

Updated by user Apr 01, 2025

I’ve filed an appeal with my bank because I had not submitted Public Storage’s receipt accounting for the initial reservation deposit and the two partial refunds. $31.30 remains as their ‘administrative fee’ for a reservation I cancelled.

No service merits no payment for their lousy storage rental.

My bank appeal is pending. The best advice is never to do business with Public Storage again.

Original review Mar 17, 2025
I made a reservation and gave my debit card information. Then, due to a request by the overseas CSR to make my reservation for a larger storage unit myself to get a discount (due to discounts only allowed one to a customer), I called back, and the CSR told me discounts are never given on the 10 x 20 units!?

Then I was refunded 2/3 of my deposit, with the remainder being retained as an administrative fee. I served myself; what did they administrate!? When I suggested I would submit to my bank, the woman who claimed to be a supervisor said she would report me to collections. These are fraudsters from the very start, and the question they ask before transferring is, 'Would you select Public Storage next time for your storage needs?' I told the poor overseas CSR, 'Not on your life!' These peeps are shameless and stealthy.

No way to evade overseas clerks.

Terrible business, poorly executed and dedicated to stuck on stupid. The worst!

Abusive Rate Increase

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Public Storage increased the rate for my unit by over 20% in only a couple of months after my contract started. Now I know they are notorious for advertising lower rates and then frequently increasing the rates by an unreasonable amount.

When I contacted them, they did not respond to all the questions I had regarding the billing cycle and move-out notice. In response to my request to keep my rate and have a guarantee that it would not change so often, they simply told me to find a unit that fits my budget. Basically, I should get rid of my things because the unit is too expensive. It just gets more and more unreasonable and disrespectful.

Even if I did have a smaller unit, they'd still apply abusive increases anyway. I contacted them back several times, asking for a response to my questions to clarify the contract and plan my move, and they continue to ignore me.
