Entered my unit without notice from Public Storage
Public Storage entered my storage unit without any type of a notice from them prior to their entering. I had to return to the front desk because my key did not work. The girl didn't bother to tell me that the locks had been changed before I went up to the unit. So I had to go back, get my new key, go back up and find that items were moved. She said they had to change the locks on all of the units. She said they had a security guard present while the locks were being changed. That does not excuse the fact they went into my unit without notice and on top of that, moved items in a disheveled manner, placed heavy items on fragile surfaces and broke some things in the unit.

Over all experience
Warning, don't ever try any public storage, all they want is your money and they don't care about the customer. My unit is a corner unit that needs to have light. Apparently, there was a problem with the wiring, they can't find it and flat out told me they were not going to fix it then I called a district manager with the name of BORIS. He said he was going to find out about the problem. It's been over a month and he hasn't called yet so every time I go, I need to take a flashlight. I asked for a credit or a lower rent since I don't have light, they said flat out, no on top of that, I started paying $132.00, and now the rent just went up again to $208.00. Stay away from this company, I've heard a lot of complaint from other people too.

Charges with no service, bad record keeping and lies
OMG. I had two storage units for 2 months. 15 days before my second month was up I got all my belongings out and closed out my account. Unfortunately, I lost the key to one of the locks. I paid $40 to have the lock cut open and I thought we were done. At the end of the month I get billed for the unit. I called and was assured there was no problem. I got a late notice on the bill I got for my long empty unit. Called again and was assured once tmore that all was taken care of. Got a third bill and second late notice. One more time with the verbal assurance. It's been nearly three months and now I have a collection agency sending me daily letters about the unpaid bill I never should have gotten in the first place and was told 4 times was taken care of. Really frustrating.

Roach and rodents moved into our stuff while in storage
We rented a unit in Fort Mill, SC for about a month while preparing our house for sale. At the end of the month, we moved into a new house.
When we picked up our stuff from storage it was covered in rodent droppings, but that wasn't the worst of it. Shortly after bringing everything to our new house we began seeing roaches - HUGE Carolina cockroaches. Our belongings are now infested with roaches thanks to the filthy conditions at this Public Storage unit.
I have no idea how much it's going to cost us to completely fumigate our house. It's just a nightmare.

Public Storage Storage Unit Review
I pay my bill in full and on time every month and I am consistently having problems getting in. It's before hours AND it's a holiday so no customer service rep is available. Not being able to access my storage when needed has happened too many times and I am not a happy customer.

Public Storage Customer Care Review
I dont care for there customer service and how l am being treated. I am not late but getting letters about when I am late the fees I am going to be charged. Its like they want you to get behind so they can own your things storaged inside. I can't wait until I am able to move my things out for good and I will never ever rent from them again ib life. Dust and rain gets inside tbe storage. Its not nice and clean as they state. A big big rip off.

Rates going up - REALLY?!! How convenient.
For what you get in storage units, 20% increase is gouging the customer. AND -- the electricity being shut off to the whole complex for repairs they can't even find is RIDICULOUS! I don't care what they say about the "market rates" and Public Storage being less - come on, this increase is NOT worth the price. DON'T EVER rent from them. It is also a total waste of time talking to Customer Service - when you can FINALLY reach a human being - they just tell you there is no on higher than the person you are speaking with and you will be told the same information - come on - NO ONE higher who can make a decision? What kind of lame excuse is THAT??!!

Public Storage - Storage Unit Review from Richmond, Virginia
No one has helped me so I'll complain on here as well to possibly help another person... Do not rent from this company!! Of course it started with the great deal for 6 mons but over a period of 3 years it has become worse than a mortgage payment. On top of that they add on fees and increases and all you can do is complain bc customer service whether in side the store or corporate does not resolve anything, you will hear the same line over and over I'm sorry!! Then it's like you're trapped bc even if you want to move out you have to pay fees that are unreal, it's just been a nightmare and a daily headache someone has got to look into this

Bottom feeders
These guys are so amazingly blatant about taking illegal advantage of their customers it blows my mind. How are they not better regulated! I know how they tried to take advantage of us, I had to contact their CEO, but most folks wont take that action and I'm sure they're being majorly screwed. A few protesters in front of his home would do the trick. His name is Ronald L. Havner, Jr, his son is Christopher Havner, his wife and daughter are named Leeann Havner Their home addresses are: 1698 Lorain Road, San Marino, CA 91108 2275 Chaucer Rd San Marino, CA 91108 Send them some fan mail.

There was probably a slob or restaurant person/business in the building because you figure there would be a food supply near by. The building owner should be responsible for fumigating the building.
As far as stuff damage they'll probably say unless insurance covers it you will get nothing. I would at least call code enforcement on that building and force them to correct the issue.
