Scammers!

I signed up for the $1 special, than got asked to pay taxes, administrative fees, and to purchase a $26 lock that was "required" to rent the storage. However when I saw the unit that I was going to rent I could see that NOBODY had this special steel lock that was "required", they all had different locks. Also, I was required to purchase insurance. In order to rent the storage, they asked for a total of $56 dollars will all those things included. So I declined to rent it. They wasted my time. I don't mind paying required fees, but I do mind not being told up front about it, being lied to, and scammed! No thank you!!

You are impressively correct. Both the lock and the insurance are scams and a huge percent of profit to the company. Please identify the crooks more thoroughly for us.

Raise rent to almost double. Price advertise on web site is 80.00 less than what I am paying . I have tried to discuss with employees with all I get for a answer is that's policy .I feel that once a customer is moved in they have them on the hook for random increases knowing full well the expenses of move it to another storage facility. I was late will this months rent it was a 35 dollar charge my fault on that lost debit card . I don't have a problem with late charge . I do have a problem when I went to pay that two week late they already threating to auction my stuff off .Rent on move in day was 97 a month now 177.00 a month for a 10 by 10 rent for a new customer today 97

I was tired from moving, not only by my self, but I had to move a friends business to a new warehouse as well, on account of my friend undergoing emergency surgery for a tooth infection ,in addtion he and his brother previously had an argument and had a"parting of the ways" ,needless to say I just wanted to gt this hotel next to the storage unit and go to bed!!!:the facility @13675 hwy 183 in Austin TX,was quick and painless, although save for all the legal mumbo jumbo I had to fill out prior to the exchange was a good convenient location, just walkn distance from my hotel made easy accessibility to and from.Al, the manager on site was courteous and concise about the whole thing...nice to see a brotha in charge;I was shown the unit way on the other side,we had to walk bout a hundred miles since the place was large,I got a climate controlled unit that made up for the hot texas july heat and was on the third floor!!!! But the price I got was great, since I did it online and it was a slowmover, and received an additional 15% off no worries there...I mean can you say:SUCH A DEAL!!!...subsequently 2 months down the road one of the elevators got stuck and the suction fan in the other was not letting the cool air from the building in:I informed the mgr,AL,about it, he was there in minutes to respond to the occasion and rectified the whole incident...another month later:some of my accounts where slow payer$ and was stressn bout gtn my bills paid:low and behold I received a phone call ,which I missed, from a lovely lady from the facility,DAWN, was so nice to give me the heads up on the impending late fee I would've received, she didn't hav to do that cuz we all know how corporate establishments love gtn late fees on us...overall save for the insurance they try to make you pay

We saw the add for the discounted move in. turned out to be over 80 dollars at move in time. Since then I cannot make a payment at all over the telephone. First of all if you choose to make a payment on the phone they charge an additional 10 dollars. So I called the automated line to make a payment. I enter my account number and it is not recognized and the automated service hangs up on me. I am forced to speak with a representative, when paying with a representative they charge extra 20 dollars. IT IS ALL A SCAM!

Public Storage - Storage Unit Review from Carrollton, Georgia

Forest Park, Ga Public Storage on Old Dixie are liars, crooks and thieves. We started our contract on September 1, 2015. By September 15th, they had already locked me out of my unit claiming that I had a returned payment, yet I paid cash. After waiting around for an hour, the manager finally showed back up and removed there lock. October 2, 2015, I paid my unit in full by debit card and went to check on my property and realized alot of my stuff had been moved and rummaged through. November 2, paid unit in full and went to get in my unit and was locked out again, 2 times now, I'm locked out of my own personal property. Finally got manager to my unit. I go back the next day to get some things out and it was one of their auction days... well, I'm going through my stuff and loading up things, I heard my unit number called out to be auction. Matter of fact, the manager with them had an inventory sheet of what was in it. I had people trying to look in my unit because it was on their auction list. The manager told the buyers, that my unit was no longer up for auction. ... NO $ hit, I was paid in full and you was about to auction my stuff off. And today I go to check my unit and I've been locked out of the gate and can't get in. The manager was already gone for the day and I have a bad feeling that when I finally do get in tomorrow, all my stuff will be gone.. they have tried too many times now to steal my valuables that I have WORKED hard for. I will be contacting consumer affairs about this company.

Buyer beware! I am having a frustrating situation with Public storage. They raised my rental rate after five months 25%. No warning at all. By time I was finally was only able to leave a message for a customer service manager, I only received a voice message that they were sorry I was upset but, they could do nothing about this. It was in fine print in my contract. When I signed the contract, after reading it through, I asked the property manager if there was anything I should really pay attention to in this agreement in terms of increases etc. She told me it was very simple agreement with no surprises.

What we suggest is to file a police report. Create an inventory of what you believe was in the unit.

Do not allow the police to refuse to take the report; if the police will not take the report in your community, go higher.

Note everything said, note the witnesses, and do what you can. Do not blame yourself, the storage industry has created scams and tricks that cause problems.

Public Storage - Storage Unit Review from Chicago, Illinois

I rented a unit off Durelee Lane in Douglasville, GA for nearly a year. I started off paying $72, then ended up paying $82, but the real damage comes when I was ready to close out... funny how I was late with my payment only once before, yet when I asked if my unit had been locked out the office clerk told me no. However, when closing out, due to me juggling work & trying to pack up at home and clear out a storage, I went 2 days over my due date when I was about to get the last of it out, but of course, I was locked out & told I had to pay $102 for late fee & an entire new month. Come on people where's the human decency in that!!! Truth is I was moving due to hardship, all my money was going towards moving fees, so I had no extra money laying around. So yes my last few things I tried getting are still there, they're calling EVERY DAY saying I will accumulate more fees & they have no right to go in my property, that I have to clear it out myself! Really!!! I tried that already remember!!! I'm far away out of state now! I was also told if I pay for them to clear it out, they can auction it off. Ok wait just a minute and think... so they want me to pay them to sell and make MORE money off My stuff, yeah don't fool with public storage, they are public pimps. Oh and the office clerk on Durelee Lane is an office robot. She consistently repeats the policy to you when you are explaining your situation. She don't want to hear it trust me, don't waste your time. I only appreciate companies that appreciate me. My year worth of service & payments made no difference when it was moving time.

This is why there should be rules on a national level. They should be simple to understand and easy to work with.

These contracts need to become consumer friendly. Also, insurance should be true coverage of property.

We suggest that you call the appropriate authorities and file a complaint. This procedure should be made simple and consumer friendly.

Public Rent Will Charge You More Than Double Its Own Prices Within a Year

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Understand this complaint is not about the rental rates or even the fact that rates will be raised over time. My complaint is specifically that longer term tenants (1+years) will end up paying more than double the rate for comparable units at the exact same location. For example, my unit is on the 3rd floor of a 3 floor building, inside, and far from the elevator. Probably just about the worst spot possible at my PS location. I am being charged $131 per month. On the PS official website for this exact same PS location, the monthly rates are listed as $69 online or $81 in-store. When I called PS to ask why I am being charged more than double their listed market rate, I was told BS about all units being different with different values. I explained the location of my unit, and there is no way that it would be considered a premium location. They then basically said I was just out of luck and there is nothing they can do. I asked if I could goto the location and move out of my unit and into one of the identically sized units going for half my current rate, and they basically said that would be fine, thinking they were calling my bluff or something. But here's the thing: as a policy, if it is fine to move from one unit to another at the same place and get a lower price for the same sized unit, WHY THE *** not just adjust my rate at my existing unit and save EVERYONE the time? It would be a few button presses on a computer. Would not ever do business to PS again and will be moving my stuff to a local storage that may charge higher advertised rates, but guarantees rent increases will never go over a reasonable % per year.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! PUBLIC STORAGE....I have had a unit for almost 2year. I went in to pay my balance owing August 3rd after missing July, so I let them know I would take care of both my late July payment and august as well. I paid just under $300 and was told I was caught up until my next month's due date on Sept 1st. You can imagine my shock when I called to pay sept and they told mey unit had been auctioned off August 28th! I am just sick to my stomach!!! They told me there was a late fee that was not paid and that this is why it was up for auction. Honestly when I paid august 3rd, they told me it was paid in full, and did not mention anythibg about a late charge! I would have just paid what was owed!!! Uhhh I feel so taken and have no idea what to do. Does anyone have insight/ideas? Is this worth small claims court? Do I have a case? Thanks for any insight I'm just heartbroken :(

I think you need to contact the state Attorney General's Office. They probably have a website to find other complaints about this and/or other companies.

With what I have read so far it is making me VERY nervous.
