Storage is a necessary evil. I had been a loyal Public Storage customer for 4 years.

I had paid my bills on time then when I decided to move out. They refused to refund me the pro-rated amount for days that I did not use the unit! There is a policy that you must inform the storage facility that you 'plan' to move out, then they will pro-rate. What's the f#R## difference!

This amounts to stealing.

The unit was cleaned and they are able to rent it out, but will not give me back my money. Just on principle I will never use Public Storage ever again!

Public Storage is run by a bunch of crooks. they refuse to cancel lease even tho I move on time

I rented a parking space for my car at Public Storage for over a year. I couldn't get my car out by the 10th as the car was disabled.

After I replaced the battery, I was able to move the car out on the 12th. Unfortunately, they charged me for the full month, as I didn't notify them by the 10th.

This is unfair and plain stealing. I am totally pissed off at this greedy company!!!

Same thing happened to me after renting with on time payments for four years! Never again with Public Storage Waipahu.

Public Storage is run by a bunch of crooks. Over a 6 year period my rent went from $20 to $48 a month.

I called them about it and they don't care. This is over a 100% increase.

This is armed robbery according to their terms and conditions. I will never use them again and will tell all my friends never to use them.

I would try to time the move out as close to the end of the month as possible. Not always feasible but if there's any possibility just do it.

Some even half a months rent is hard to absorb as a loss and should be illegal quite frankly.

The self storage industry is a very powerful lobby at the state level especially operating almost unseen in state legislatures and with state regulators.

Public Storages are rip offs unclean, the one in Fairfield Ca. 990 Beck ave.mice infestations, they do unfair business practices, to get you in, don't believe anything they say there liars get everything in writing, and read before signing. Online promotion , if you don't get it at that moment, don't let them talk you into signing anything else other than what they advertised, are they will surely steal .leaking roofs also.

I work for PS competition but also have the policy of prorate for fist 5 days of month and no refunds if after that amount of time. A few differences would be my wife and I do not answer to a corperate office that can hand out different information and we explain the leases to every customer so they know ahead of time.

Mitt Romney's company BAIN Capital owns Public Storage what did u expect? A handout of your own money?

I'm actually dealing with this now. I decided to move into a smaller unit since my rent was being raised yet again.

I was informed that I didn't qualify for the 50% off for the first month on the new unit because I was a current customer. As there is nothing in the contract, nothing online, and nothing anywhere to inform customers of this fact its false advertising, and I decided to find another unit elsewhere. After talking with corporate about this issue I was informed that if I set a move out date I could have my last month prorated. I called on the 10th (last day to pay here before they charge late fees and lock the unit), and tried to set up a move out date.

Was informed that I had to be out by that day in order to receive any prorate. Talked to customer service, who told me only the district manager could decide to prorate. Called the DM, who informed me he didn't have that authority, because they are month-to-month and don't prorate after the 10th, that I had to pay the full months rent to avoid any fees. I went ahead and paid the rent then called customer service again.

Was told that I had been a customer for long enough to qualify for certain allowances, including a prorated rebate if I call back once I vacated. I asked the person if I had to be out by the 15th to receive the rebate and told that I didn't. It would be better if I was, since the sooner I was out the more I would save, but that anytime I moved out I just needed to make sure they vacate me out and call to request the rebate. Now I'm being told that the cut off date was the 10th, that its their policy and they can't issue a rebate.

One person told me that the 15th was only a maybe, not a certainty, but that's irrelevant since I wasn't able to move out until the 17th. I was recovering from a broken foot and unable to move out sooner, but tried to get out ASAP since I was fed up with the constant rate hikes. Now I'm pissed that they falsely advertised something and none of them cared, then they refused to work with me since I couldn't afford the increase and now they refuse to give any rebate, as more than one person in the corporate office indicated would be possible. The miscommunication is almost as lousy as the horrible customer service!

If they had cooperated just a little I would have considered them again in the future.

Now I'll merely warn everyone I know to avoid PS, as the company simply doesn't care about the people who likely pay a large portion of their salaries. This is simply bad business, and I'm glad I found some place larger and cheaper nearby, with better hours as well.

It's a month to month contract. You pay for the month you are here...

Even though they can prorate the first 6days, lease does not say we have to. And that's simply it. Rent increase are always sent out...

If the address is valid. So unfortunately that what he signed and agreed to, I don't see how you can complain when in the lease every says, "it's a month to month contract.."

Guest

You can only pay a prorate through to the 6th. After that you have to pay the full months rent.m

I was 2 days late moving out, the 3rd of the month and they are charging full price!

Public storage is real bad news. One year I changed units and I was supposed to be pro-rated.

Instead, they sent my name to a collection agency. When I confronted them, they knew nothing. When I asked for the manager of several occasions, they were nowhere to be found. A couple years later they moved me to another one because they tore those out.

It didn't take long before they started raising the prices without notice. I moved to a smaller one for 2 months for I closed out cause i'd had enough.

I have had the worst experiences with the Public Storage Company. After renting from them for 13 years, yes, 13(!), they would not pro-rate for a half month before my move out, nor would they, if needed, give a grace period of a day or two.

I was nevr late for a payment in all 13 years!! There were rodents and water damage as well. The manager laughed at me when I asked they not raise my rate again, since the 10x15 unit was already up to $194. Well, they raised it to $209!!

Would not recommend this company or storage to anyone! :(

Guest

I was informed of a rate increase AFTER I was charged for the month (auto debit) let them know I was cleaning out right away. I was still charged 4 weeks when I only used one. Could not have happened if I paid by check because I would have only paid them for the week.

Guest

If you give notice before paying for the month, you will only have to pay the prorate for the days you store...

Guest

I know what you mean. I moved out for very good reason when I could arrange everything.

Never got a refund; just company policy line from a manager.

If Public Storage would keep the buildings up, and gave out proper information, the rules would and could be followed. They blame us when they make mistakes.

Guest

I know about this. The hasp system on my unit was cut and the so called manager refused to allow me to call the police.

That is right, please no cops! Rather than do something right, I was forced to move in order to protect my property. This also resulted in no refund until I reported it to our state.

Then offers of money. These people are bad news and employee just as bad.
